Evangelism is an active part of Gilgal’s Ministry. For example, as part of this Ministry, we organised Open Air meetings at key points in the year.
The church evangelism team organises open air meetings and events on John Street and around Porthcawl; car washes for the local streets; providing information sheets to local businesses and public areas; supporting Trecco Bay summer services; involvement with the local carnival and other events.
Team Members: Mary Gough, Pam Jenkins, John Hornsby, Nigel Irwin, Liz Rees and Mervyn Trigg
What we did in 2015:
Our Easter outreach at the bandstand went well, with comments written by townsfolk on Martin’s graffiti board. Some conversations were taken up by Gilgal members to good effect.
A number of updated Gilgal information sheets were laminated and distributed to hotels, B&B’s and campsites throughout Porthcawl, informing visitors of our presence and how to get to visit us whilst on holiday in Porthcawl. Most were accepted with grace and positivity.
On July 4th, we undertook a new venture. Letters were posted to Park Avenue residents offering them a free Car Wash at our newly completed car park. It was a really good exercise and a number of residents took us up on our invitation, solidifying a stronger relationship with them. The Community Team came on board in blessing our immediate community in this way and fun was had by all, including a welcoming cake and coffee for workers and customers alike.
Our presence at the Porthcawl Carnival was once again made and a number of passing folk stopped for a chat, as well as taking literature away with them. The ‘throw a wet sponge’ was a popular activity, as well as the giant Connect 4 game borrowed from Nottage Primary school.
The Trecco Bay activities continued to be supported and run through the August school holidays.
The Elvis weekend was again, a popular venue for visitors in Porthcawl and we took advantage, once again, to engage with townsfolk and visitors alike. Our Million Dollar Bill Elvis tracts were less popular but still well accepted by all.
Once again, the bandstand was booked for a new approach to our Christmas witness on 19th December. This extravaganza was unfortunately cancelled due to the dangerous weather reports throughout the media. Never mind, our previous day of Prayer and Fasting did not go amiss as we were so blessed by all our Christmas services throughout the season.
